Bear Experiment This is Gummy Bear experiment in this following tutorial which is being performed in chemistry lab. It is very dangerous to perform because Potassium Chlorate is flammable gas and catch fire in no time. Therefore it is recommended to the performer to get well safety before performing this experiment. This site is also has learning portion where you can see important problem of different subject and gummy bear is one of them. It requires a few apparatus for this experiment, test tube, Potassium chlorate, gummy bear, gloves and other safety material. The purpose of performing this experiment is to study difference between oxidation and reduction. The gummy bear is the combination of sugar which dissolves in Potassium chlorate instantly. This experiment is look like a trick which astonishes the performers who fail to realize what is happening. Potassium chlorate catches fire and causes a great loss. Save your skin in every way and perform this act when you are totally covered. It excretes a lot of smoke at oxidation time therefore it is better to perform it outside. Otherwise you may unconscious. Apply heat from every side of test tube the gummy bear are made up of sugar or glucose therefore they react with warm potassium chlorate and dissolve into it producing lot of smoke. In the following video the experiment is being shown visually.
